Adapting, Boldly Moving Forward, and Living All-In
Have you ever finished a really intense season and thought, “Man, that was a lot”? That was the month of April for me.
If I’m honest, it was a month of highs and lows—big wins, hard moments, and lots lessons learned. The kind of month that has me reflecting on what really matters: adaptability, community, boldness, and going all-in.
I’ll tell you—life is a lot like a mountain range. Sometimes, you think you're preparing for one thing, and then BAM, you hit a mountain. It’s in those moments when your purpose is the thing that keeps you grounded and moving forward.
So, here’s the deal: Let’s dive into my April, take a look at what I’ve been learning, and then—here’s the big one—let’s talk about how we keep pushing, even when we can’t see the next step.
Ready? Let’s go.

Purpose Requires Adaptability: The Story of Lewis & Clark
Here’s something that hit me as I read Canoeing the Mountains for my Cultivating Church in Everyday Life class at Luther Seminary. The whole Lewis & Clark journey got me thinking about leadership and community-building today.
The expedition was supposed to be a river journey, right? Instead, they hit the Rocky Mountains—a mountain range they had no idea they would face. Sound familiar? We often prepare for one thing, only to be confronted with something entirely different.
Here’s what I learned:
- Purpose requires adaptability – Just like Lewis & Clark had to ditch their canoes when the river turned into mountains, we too have to let go of things that no longer serve us and adapt to what life throws at us. Our purpose is our compass, but how we get there often changes.
- Community is everything – Lewis & Clark didn’t make it alone. They leaned on each other, their team, and welcomed new faces along the way. We need that too. Surround yourself with people who support, challenge, and encourage you. Don’t go alone.
The whole expedition was an act of boldness. They stepped into the unknown with courage. When we step into our purpose, we often step into the unknown as well. But that’s where transformation happens. Purpose Ignited, baby.

Going All-In: My Journey to a Master’s Degree
Now, let’s talk about going all-in.
In 1997, I graduated from the half of the class that made the top half possible. But here’s the kicker: in 2024, I started pursuing my Master’s Degree at Luther Seminary. Full scholarship. Big commitment. Big shift. But I didn’t realize just how big it would be. Full-time school, year-round—while balancing everything else. It’s been a lot, but it’s also been one of the most fulfilling, purpose-igniting experiences of my life.
Here’s what’s wild: I didn’t just commit to a degree—I committed to changing myself, to pushing myself to be better, to learn more, to grow. That’s the kind of commitment that can ignite purpose—and it has.
And you know what? Macallister came with me. For two full days of classes.
He saw his dad, at 49, still pushing, still learning, still dreaming bigger.
That’s the model. Going all-in, no regrets.
It requires sacrifices, sure. Time. Relationships. Energy. But it’s worth it.

Where I Need Help
I’m juggling A LOT right now. Four browsers, each with 20+ tabs open (school, business, Purpose Fueled). It’s chaos. And if I’m being honest, it’s not efficient.
👉 Do you have a system for managing your digital world?
I need a better way to organize my notes, tabs, and everything else. If you’ve got a workflow that works for you, send it my way!

Purpose Activation Challenge
This week, I want to challenge you to take one bold, intentional step toward activating your purpose.
Think about the “mountains” in your life—the challenges or obstacles that seem daunting. What’s one action you can take today to move forward, even if it feels uncomfortable?
Maybe it’s having a tough conversation you’ve been avoiding, setting a boundary, or making a decision that aligns with your values.
Whatever it is, make it count.
Remember, purpose requires adaptability—sometimes we have to let go of old habits, beliefs, or even gear that no longer serves us. But in those moments of courageous action, transformation happens.
Let’s make it real—take that step today!
